I read a story one quite a long time from Dale Carnegie's book, titled Arches of Diamond. I will tell all I can remember about the story with some spiciness :
There lived a farmer in a country; he was contented because he was wealthy, and wealthy because he was contented. There lived also a priest also who was from a very far country that came to live in that same country the farmer was living.
The old priest likes telling stories; he always tells stories to this wealthy farmer, beautiful stories, and very beautiful ones concerning life.
There came a day, this old priest told the farmer that if he has a handful of diamond, he can purchase a whole country, and with a mine of diamond, he could place his children upon thrones through the influence of his great wealth.
This farmer after he had heard all the stories about diamond and how much they worth, he went to his bed that night a poor man not that he has lost anything, but because he was discontented, he was discontented because he taught he was poor. The farmer had a sleepless night that day I mean he hardly slept; he was totally discontented and restless.
At the crack of dawn, unlike before, the farmer went to wake up this old priest. The old priest asked the farmer if there was anything wrong. The farmer said I want a mine of gold; I want to be immensely rich. Where can I get the diamond you told me about, he continued. The old priest asked him what he wanted to do with the diamond, not to disturb his sleep anymore told him that if he would find a river that runs over white sand between high mountains, in those sands he would always see diamond, not knowing that this farmer was about selling his farm to go and look for the mine or rather the acres of diamond, without knowing the consequence.
The farmer sold his piece of land without even telling this bossom friend of his (the old priest). He traveled far and wide in search for diamond, but he did not see any. His money got exhausted on his coming home; he could not more money that will take him home. He suffered, I mean he suffered, and the type of suffering he had, he had never suffered it before since he was born.
The farmer that bought his farm from him continued working on the farm, he planted crops and so many other things. One day, as the man was cultivating the crop as usual, he came across a piece of object shinning as the stars in the firmament, he had not even seen diamond before let alone thinking the object was diamond.
Fortunately, that old priest was walking by the side of the farm, he saw the object the man was holding, he went nearer and saw that it was diamond. This old priest being a truthful person not just because he was a priest, but also because he had learnt to be truthful.
He told the farmer that what he was holding was diamond with just that diamond, he can become a millionaire if not even a billionaire, if he sells it.
This farmer later found out that it was true because he had heard of something like that before. The old priest assisted him to go and look if there were other diamonds there; he found that it was not just one diamond but also an acre of diamond. This diamond was not just only an acre of diamond but also one of the best diamonds in the world. This made this farmer become one of the richest in his days.
I hope you have learnt that Acres of diamond can be within your domain, therefore you need to cultivate your mind, your talent, your time, your environment and you will discover that you cannot only be good, but you can as well be the best mentally, emotionally, financially, educationally and otherwise. For a man said and I quote, what the mind can conceive it can acheive.Back
